Thumb prox phalanyx

Bilateral in a 12 y/o. No other signs or symptoms (skin changes etc). Hand surgeon asked me what this is. Probably an aunt mini. I don’t know other than some sort of dysplasia. Looks like a central bar of some sort or even a central osteochondroma (not sure of that even exists) but I could not find another example after 15 minutes of searching so I don’t think it’s a normal variation.

What is it? Teach me.

    That’s a cone-shaped wpiphysis.

    The most common cause IMHO is just normal variant.

    However, radiopaedia gives a number of other possibilities:
