Old epifascial haematoma?

Thank you all for your impressively numerous and quick replies.
The vote went 28:1 in favour of chronic Morel-Lavallée (degloving) lesion.
Have a great day!

Hi there,

this is a 60 year old man who’s had this "bump" at the left hip for years and now wants to know what it is. It doesn’t hurt or grow. The patient dimly remembers a skiing accident years ago.

The lesion is epifascially located and consists of a thickly encapsulated liquid collection with fluid-fluid levels and some solid inclusions caudally.

To me this could well be old haematoma with calcifications. If it had been next to a tendon or joint I would have said chronic synovitis or synovial (osteo)chondromatosis. I have seen a few deceptively benign looking synovial sarcomas over the years, but those were in a deeper location.

What is your impression?

Cheers, and have a great week!

Andrei
