Looking for billing code advise.
We want to start performing whole body DEXA for lean, fat and mineral content, but cannot find a CPT code to bill under. Currently we seem to have;
77080 Dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA), bone density study, 1 or more sites, axial skeleton (eg. Hips, pelvis, spine)
77081 Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), bone density study, 1 or more sites; appendicular skeleton (peripheral) (e.g., radius, wrist, heel)
77085 Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), bone density study, 1 or more sites; axial skeleton (eg, hips, pelvis, spine), including vertebral fracture assessment
77086 Vertebral fracture assessment via dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA)
There is no specific CPT or HCPCS code that describes whole body dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA/DXA) and other body composition techniques to determine body composition.
Do you perform these studies and how do you bill, or do you know what CPT code other sites are currently using when billing for this.
