across the majority of the synchondrosis”
Bipartite patella fusion
Patella partially bipartite, with osteohypertrophic reaction and partial
ankylosis of the superolateral ossification nucleus.
It doesn’t look like a bipartite patella to me, the sum of the ossified
components is much greater than expected for the patella itself, unlike
what happens in the bipartite patella, where the fragments fit together
like a jigsaw puzzle. You can see the outline of the patellar cortex at the
interface with the ossification. I would describe it as heterotopic
ossification in the soft tissues adjacent to and incorporated into the
patella, with no further likely meaning.
Sort of a “form fruste” of bipartite patella (i.e. on the specxtrum of an
accessory ossification center with incomplete fusion)
It’s a weird looking bipartite!
Consider post traumatic before skeletal maturation also lateral pole IA
osteochondroma Trevor’s or just aberrant ossification overgrowth associated
with athletic activity on bi partite patella. Mature overgrowth not
excessively sclerotic.
