Anatomy Question, Ankle , Subtalar Joint and FHL tendon sheath

Long ago I previously asked this question and understand that prior
publications indicated that the Ankle joint communicates with the FHL
tendon sheath—-so that commensurate fluid in the ankle and FHL sheath are
simply a function of normal communication.
BUT I repeatedly find fluid in the subtalar joint and FHL sheath in the
absence of ankle joint fluid..and without FHL tendinosis.

In this case (which has alot of pathology other than joint and FHL sheath
fluid) there is NO ankle joint fluid. There is marked distention of the
Sinus Tarsi Bursa (Blue arrow), mild distention of the subtalar joint
(Yellow arrow) and moderate distention of the FHL sheath at the ankle (Red
arrow)…with minimal dissension of the sheath in the foot.

I have done very few ankle arthrograms and never saw communication. I
wonder what your thoughts are, or if there are publications that
graphically illustrate this communication between the ankle joint and
FHL….because it runs counter to what I think I see.

FYI, I KNOW about the plantar fasciopathy and P Brevis split and Cuboid
insufficiency fracture…that is not what I am asking about.

Thanks in advance.
