16M one week after American football injury, 8 months after ACL reconstruction
There are posterior tibial contusions (not shown), an inferior patellar contusion, but no femoral contusion—even though I don’t see a fluid signal defect, the graft looks lax and I think the yellow arrow points to a tear at the mid-distal graft
My question is about the femoral suspensory button
Though I’ve never recognized this fixation failure…though it has been reported
There is a distance between the button and the hiatus at the lateral supracondylar femur.
I’m not sure if this reflects failure of deployment of fixation resulting in soft tissue interposition of the button and the cortex, which has been reported in 15-25% ….and has been reportedly associated with ITB friction , weakening of femoral fixation and weakening / failure of the graft (see reference).
Or if this can be the direct result of recent sports injury.
What do you think?
