Hi again, dear Ocaders.
This time, a 9-y old kid, with benign looking tumor of the femur, I gues
NOF, had a pathological bone fracture (not shown)
This is the second MRI, after 6 month – the fracture healed almost no sign
of it, except some periosteal reaction on the postero-medial aspect.
I would say leave it alone/ dont’touch lesion, but his father is an
orthopedist and wants surgery, to support the bone and prevent future
fractures.
Now, he has done a ct to have more information and as I suspected, the CT
show that there is no cortex left at least in 1/3 distal.
Now the ortopedist/ father has all the arguments that his sun needs
surgery, me – not sure.
No soft tissue involvement.
So, my questions are:
1. Does he need surgery? (prophylactic in order to support the bone)
2. CT shows no cortex but MRI shows no soft tissue involvement, so: is
there really no cortex? Is this cause of concern or does this change the
fact that the tumor is still bening?
Thanks a lot!
