The central portion of the quadriceps tendon is superficially frayed and
probably partially torn (I will recommend additional femur MRI…this is a
site without MSK US), but there is a huge defect between the central tendon
and what’s left of the vastus lateralis, with joint fluid communicating
through the defect.
There is a smaller, similar defect between the central tendon and the
vastus medialis.
This is a gray zone for me in terms of understanding the anatomy.
Is this a “Tendon” tear, or an aponeurotic tear?
Does it matter?
