34-year-old female with right carotid region mass/swelling. Nontender

My good friend Blake Johnson (Neuroradiologist extrordinare) showed me this case because TMJ exams are in the “no man’s land” as far as many radiological proactices being read by many neuroradiologists and we consult with each other. Afterall it is a synovial joint and like I often say, “It’s a half a knee – kinda”.

The patient is a 34-year-old female with right carotid region mass/swelling. Nontender. Diffuse sclerosis of the R mandible and there is a uniformly enhancing (on MRI) mass. We discussed possibilities like chronic osteo, inflammatory which can be associated with some sclerosis such as erdheim chester, CRMO (although a bit old). Extraosseous mass is confusing.
